Hans Boersma Aikido: Aikido in Haarlem and Uitgeest

What is Aikido?

Aikido is a Japanese martial art in which you use your opponent’s strength. In Aikido, we have an open attitude and we try to avoid conflicts at all times. If an attack is inevitable, we try to maintain the non-aggressive ‘mindset’ in order to overpower the opponent with a throw and/or joint lock.

Hans Boersma about his Aikido classes

“I have been practicing Aikido since I was 17. I loved this beautiful martial art from the outset. The fact that you train yourself both psychically and mentally is very appealing to me.

  • I find the structuring of the techniques/forms very important. Once this framework has been established, more energy can be put into the techniques and training partner, and one can continue to work towards a higher level.
  • Besides the technical forms, I pay close attention to the right (mental) intention and correct posture. Aikido is also suitable for people who are smaller or less strong. They can overcome this physical barrier through the proper posture and correct technical execution of a technique.
  • After years of training, I know the importance of being in shape, not only to train well during the classes, but also to feel healthy in your day-to-day life. It is also crucial to prevent injuries, whether you are a younger person or an older person.”
